ABOUT ME

Our world is made by plants

Plants are essential for every aspect of our human lives, and they hold the keys to the complex problems that humanity is facing.

Every breath we take was made by plants, every drop of clean water was created by plants. Plants provide material for our clothes and buildings, they give us food and medicine. Plants even have a direct influence on our moods and behaviours through our diets. The molecules in our brain, such as dopamine and serotonin, are plant compounds. Join me and learn about ethnobotany, the relationship between people and plants.

People, plants and culture

Learn ethnobotany and become a more effective advocate for plants, rights of indigenous people and right of nature.

Human cultures have co-evolved with plants from the beginning of time. Especially indigenous and traditional communities have kept their unique knowledge of the plants alive.
Ethnobotany is the exciting study that offers the opportunity to research, document and revive valuable traditional knowledge, as well as research interactions of modern cultures with plants and local ecology.

New research published in the Journal of Environme New research published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology suggests that watching videos of natural environments, such as forests, helps people recover from stress more effectively than watching videos of urban environments.

Simply looking at natural scenes could help the human body and mind recover from stress.

Scientists conducted this study to test the reliability of a highly influential experiment from 1991.

Ten different research teams across the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden joined forces for this project.

Our findings suggest that merely viewing nature can support recovery from acute stress, both psychologically and physiologically,” van den Berg told PsyPost.

What a full, diverse, stimulating and inspiring da What a full, diverse, stimulating and inspiring day yesterday at @integra_event ☀️
Surrounded with art & nature at @hetrijkvandekeizer, we came together at this unique event; a gathering, a conversation, a liminal space to reflect on the metacrisis. Which is what, exactly?
meta:
beyond, behind, transcending
crisis:
a turning point, a structural transition
We experienced a breathwork session with Yoran. We learned about a new story of meaning and Homo Amor with Krista Steenbergen. Paul Hughes offered us insights on patterns & principles of complexity, Maya Frost spoke about rewilding our mind and imagination, Natalie Halai offered ethical AI panel moderation and heartwarming music. So many more contributed to this enriching day.
Myself I offered a @greenunfolding workshop about ethnobotany, the value of indigenous and traditional wisdom, and the diversity of knowledge and plants that offer us medicine.
We filled the map of Amsterdam with our collective ideas on where we find precious plant resources as well as knowledge. How can we protect our local plants and knowledge?
With much gratitude to everyone who contributed and in particular the core organising team!
Ethnobotany & Medicinal Plants Mapping Workshop 🍀 Ethnobotany & Medicinal Plants Mapping Workshop 🍀

You are invited to a workshop on ethnobotany and medicinal plants: understanding global connections and mapping local resources.

In this interactive workshop we will dive into ethnobotany, which explores the  relationship between plants, people and culture. Ethnobotany offers pathways to  understanding and documenting Traditional Knowledge. The knowledge held by
Indigenous People and local communities worldwide, which holds the keys to  sustainable lifestyles and human flourishing.

In this workshop we will explore ethnobotany with a focus on medicinal plants. Medicinal plants are essential to  many pharmaceutical drugs and everyday wellness products. And globally, the
use of traditional medicine is growing. Yet, we are losing biodiversity as well as this precious Traditional Knowledge at unprecedented rates, as they are
impacted by the same forces.

We will learn about the global picture, threats and solutions and ask, how can we give back to medicinal plants and the communities that tend to them? And, we will co-create a ‘biocultural map’ of Forest Row to understand our own local medicine resources. Where do we grow, harvest and buy our medicines locally?

This workshop is a free of charge, yet I much appreciate a small contribution to the cost of the room. Spaces are limited, please book yours on Eventbrite.

When? Saturday, 25 April. 3pm - 4.30pm
Where? Java & Jazz Studio (Anderida), Lower Road Forest Row, RH185ES , Sussex, UK
